New today
A policy preventing Copyright owners from making $ on manual claims for:
Short song clips (ex: 5 sec of a song)
Unintentional audio (ex:
from passing cars)
Claimants can still block monetization or the video itself, but timestamps help you edit out the claim.

How about not letting them make claims on that shit in the first place? This change does exactly nothing while pretending it's some big leap forward.

It's not at all. "Oh, they can't monetize it?" BUT ALSO "They can still file a claim and block and/or demonetize the entire video for the uploader just like they always could" This is doing nothing while making it sound like it's something. The same old problem remains.

dude, stop complaining. that solves nothing. youtube has done dumb shit in the past, no doubt. but now they finally did something good, and this is big step forward them, and this a change from here on out. they already stated this will not affect claims from past videos.

Replying to @AComputerChip @CryptidWorks and
they cannot 'stop filing claims in the first place'. it happened in the past, there's nothing that can be done about it. be thankful that they are actually giving a shit for once.

They could stop them from filing frivolous claims in the future but they didn't. They just removed ONE OPTION (that was ironically the most ideal for the video uploader because it leaves it up) for how the holder can handle it and are pretending it does something.

i don't get what you mean. i'm pretty sure this IS a way from stopping frivolous claims. many of the youtubers i watch used like 10 seconds of a song and they get their video claimed. this has been the case for record companies like UMG and SME. i fail to see the issue here.

Read it again. They can still make claims and either demonetize the video or block it. They just now no longer have the option of monetizing themselves. This changes nothing.
