Second, I think it's important to be clear about what the goals of engagement are. If the goal is to 'deconvert' someone within the span of a conversation using bulletproof logic and evidence, I wish you luck because I don't think people work that way.

Third, I think in this particular case HOW you engage is informed by who you ARE, and who you're TALKING TO. Gender and perceived desirability are going to affect how persuasive your arguments are going to be.

Fourth, I think that the rise of the 'incel' identity is largely due to the ability of the internet to create microcommunities. These guys don't meet or interact in real life, and are often far-flung. 'Incel' forums provide a sense of identity and camaraderie .

(Fourth cont.) This suggests to me that PART of the answer has to be to starve the 'incel' groups by building inviting communities and constructive identities for the kinds of men they prey on and recruit. That's hard work.

Fifth, I think we need to address the way in which the broader society validates the misogynistic beliefs that help DEFINE the 'incel' community but aren't necessarily UNIQUE to them. 'Sexual conquest as a defining part of masculinity' is perhaps chief among them.
