Making children go through life-defining trials, like school, is not a good thing, despite the euphoria of success. For one, it makes the endeavour about succeeding at the trial and not about the content or the fun you might have.

It’s changing...too slowly...but many just don’t value creativity in themselves or their children (largely). They’ll value a picture drawn or a funny dance: but what too many really want is rote memorisation and meeting pre-defined outcomes. The opposite of “follow your heart”.

In my opinion, most of this problem can be explained by the double purpose of schools : they have to rank students while teaching to them. It is very hard to rank creativity, as anyone who witnessed the grading system of any art class would know.

Ranking students is something schools do, but not because it benefits the children, their parents, or society at large. It would be better if schools stopped that practice.
