    The latest report from on deaths in prison is the most convincing argument for halting prison expansion. Reduce the prison population, divert from imprisonment & halt prison building.

    Boosting police numbers would effectively be creating a demand for prison places. It is a sign of utter failure. What about using public health, social care, housing, welfare instead of using policing and prisons to solve problems?

    Govt ‘impact assessment’ says it’ll raise prison population by 2000 by 2030 at £700m ten-year cost. IA contains no estimate of whetherit’ll cut reoffending & MoJ couldn’t provide examples of prisoners freed halfway through 7-yr plus sentence who’ve reoffended before 2/3 point.

    Filling up prisons by extending time served prior to being released on automatic license isn't a serious way to deal with sexual violence or serious offending. You can support victims whilst addressing serious violence properly
