I feel like the penalty here should be for *selling* a smashed egg. Go after the dealers, not the users!

Nah, the real wording says "No person shall buy, sell, or transport, or offer to buy or sell, or offer or receive for transportation..." Unsurprisingly, they pick the most ridiculous combination of the laws selected.

Maybe that law shouldn’t have put in ‘buy’. Just shows how sloppy our process of making laws is.

It's a law for businesses (next line is "in any business in commerce any restricted eggs"). It's to stop businesses from buying eggs unfit for human consumption, and then providing them as/in food products.

Lol I spent 5 minutes looking this up because it sounded WAY too vague for a government policy and came to the same conclusion. It prevents farmers from selling useless eggs and businesses from buying cracked eggs at a reduced price and pawning it off as a good egg.

One egg in my 18 was broken. I must have done it. I checked the carton when I picked it up, they were fine. By check out, it was broken. It was my fault. I'm so sorry @Safeway. I told the cashier to leave it. Some how they found out. #DeepState

So it is a crime to buy an inedible egg but not sell it? Who writes these laws? lol

What if you wait till it has sobered up?

As a grocery retail manager I’ve NEVER heard this law and I’m going to start placing customers under citizens arrest immediately. These criminals need to pay their debt to society.

Wouldn’t you face charges being you bought the eggs from the wholesaler smashed?

Lol no we smash them before we put them on the floor. They come in in perfect condition.
