What if players could use their prize money to bid on server preference and map picks? You can get every map pick and server preference but you pay directly from your prize money for that event for it as you try to outbid the opponent.
I know you weren't soliciting ideas, but what if players collected fan-funded "bounties" (build only phoenix!, proxy every building!, etc.) and then spent the bounty points on server/map preferences?
Midas Mode for Dota 2 was similar to this. Very fun concept.
