SC2 itself doesnt put any significant traffic, the problem should be streaming

Not only does it not use significant bandwidth, you can practically play Starcraft on 0.1 download if it's stable with not much latency. Source: I lived in a hotel for 3 months once.

Whoever told you that is an utter tool. If your modem can't support the bandwidth you're paying for without overheating, it should be replaced under warranty.
-
How you are using your bandwidth is irrelevant in this case. If you're paying for, e.g. a 500/500 connection, your ISP-provided modem has to be able to work at those speeds 24/7.

Noup Streaming does put a significant strain on the modem tho Could be that it is simply that the modem your ISP gave you is of poor quality leading to overheating issues

I could fry an egg on that sucker after my streams yesterday. Current #1 suspect for my intermittent packet loss issues.

I actually measured it at one point and the average game utilizes like megabytes throughout the entire game. Not megabytes per second like 100 Meg for a 20 minute game or something like that, its negligible.

Starcraft II is one of the lightest games to stream. The chunk of the screen where the console is stays almost completely static throughout. I’ve certainly never had it do any harm to my network hardware.

Lol no it's well below 56kbps. Have you replaced all your Ethernet cables? It sounds dumb but physical layer issues are more common than you'd think
-
Oh didn't realize the issue was modem overheating. If you have cable just buy your own if you have fiber you don't actually need the "modem" they rent you it's just a router you can just buy your own modem rentals are a ripoff
