  I wrote a story out of Iraq in 2008 abt rosy reporting from the field. Officers and NCOs talked about it at a patrol base on the Iranian border. Telling the truth was a ‘career killer,’ they said. Back home, the generals told Congress of progress. What you’re saying is familiar.

  When I was in Afghanistan just last year, the SF said there were AQ in the East working with the Taliban. And Afghan forces rolled up AQ in Helmand as well.
