Irreverent, socially conscious Clinical Health Psychologist, #Skeptic debunking hype. Teaching scientists how to promote their work without it. Views my own.
6/ Kinderman was the great white hope of their group receiving a Pulizer or John Maddox Prize, but they are still hopeful for PK to receive the Valeriu Boboc Prize from Romania where getting a retraction does not disqualify someone and academic misconduct is the norm.
4/ Paper and its retraction represent Kinderman's continued efforts to punish people who point the racism among PK and his followers. PK threatened to sue Deans who would not stop me saying his group would ask a Black person to clear the tables if one mistakenly showed up.
3/ Original acceptance of Kinderman's paper was as an inside job." Dame Til Wykes was co-author of Understanding Psychosis. She has now invited a resubmission. Is there further embarrassment ahead?
2/ PK's unpersuasive excuse fro his behavior: "We had not intended to withhold important information from reviews or readers, but had instead removed identification from all the blogs, including mine, to permit blind review."
Some psychiatrists are still recommending lithium for prevention despite more evidence of renal complications https://thelancet.com/journals/lanpsy/article/PIIS2215-0366(22)00308-X/fulltext…
When I got close to the center of things. I was dismayed that a potential Organization with clear-cut rules could be so undermined by incompetence and some positions and decisions being made by who was sleeping with whom. Affairs with the heads of key committees created power.
Seyle slipped into the realm of pop and never got outed for tobacco money in the same way. Eysenck distracted from others like Spielberger and Seyle and Irwin Sarason.
Richard Lazarus and I tried to resolve the cognition vs environment debate by calling for a transactional approach but we split when he drifted into a defender of cognitive appraisal
Great review on the importance of cognition vs external events. A shame the overwhelming majority of research subjects are US college students but not the fault of @PeterHaehner et al. But it does emphasize the need for more diverse clinical population research
As someone who knew Marxism only through the texts and its strongest proponents, I never understood why people had such visceral hatred for Marxists, especially calling them "intolerant". Interacting with self-professed Marxist undergrads at liberal arts unis, i know now.
My understanding is that psychiatry is a branch of medicine. Like all medicine, its core mission is to treat medical problems. It seems to follow that to the extent it has authority over mental distress, it’s because it views that distress as a medical problem, i.e., pathology.
New @biofinder_study study shows that dietary habits in midlife including a Mediterranean diet, was not associated with reduced risk of developing dementia.

Something I think a lot of people don’t realise about #MECFS…
When healthy people are ill, they snuggle up with tv or a book.
For a lot of #pwME (people who have #MyalgicE), watching tv/reading is strenuous. When we feel particularly ill, we are unable to do ANYTHING.
'the claim that lithium reduces suicide is quite fanciful and not borne out by the evidence from randomised trials' coverage of our review by @Mad_In_Americahttps://madinamerica.com/2022/10/lithium-suicide-prevention-not-supported-evidence/…
After 30 years of profit-taking by Big Harma based on a faulty premise, #TheScience spontaneously announces:
"Depression Is Not Caused by Chemical Imbalance in the Brain. We don’t know how antidepressants work."
We don't know that they work, either.
https://psychologytoday.com/ca/blog/insight-therapy/202207/depression-is-not-caused-chemical-imbalance-in-the-brain…
Now that the chemical imbalance theory is officially discredited what medical reasons are psychiatrists/doctors providing patients to prescribe psychiatric drugs?

Inflammation and dysfunction of the lining of blood vessels—the endothelium—is the basis for many of the cardiovascular complications of Covid. A new, solid review here https://nature.com/articles/s41401-022-00998-0…
A striking example of when #psychedelics self treatment goes wrong: “A Physician's Attempt to Self-Medicate Bipolar Depression with N,N-Dimethyltryptamine (#DMT)”:
At one point I thought I didn't need medication.. I was wrong https://bipolarlife.uk/2022/08/15/does-everyone-go-through-bipolar-denial/…#lithium#bipolar#mentalillness#livedexperience
Professor Moncrieff, I'd suggest that you get yourself to rehab, except we both agree that there ain’t no mental health cure for the addiction of proving null hypotheses. It is just so damn much fun and predictably draws such praise from your followers.
But you do have to be member of HCPC i.e. some statutory professional regulation to practice clinically as psychologist ?
If can be HCPC without BPS why would people bother? It's hardly been a bastion of ethics & thought leadership at least that's how it seems to a layman.
Look how badly behaved clinical psychologists are on social media are who are associated with BPS and how the organization does nothing to protect others from them – call leagues and patients. Peter Kinderman is hardly a moral giant. Even when he’s not getting articles retracted.
PSA for aspiring psychologists - you do not need to be a member of the BPS to get on clinical training. You only need to be eligible for membership. If you don’t like how they act, don’t give them your money.
Don’t pay attention to mental health advice offered on LinkedIn and be wary of what you see elsewhere in social media. Charlatans vastly outnumber reasonable, sane People committed to best evidence. https://twitter.com/susandavid_phd/status/1582476110612291585…
This keeps happening with frontiers and the academic community needs to know about it. Authors who Have published in frontiers Become stakeholders and keeping these practices secret.
