We’ve updated our metrics because our previous framework was built during a different time: there was a lack of govt risk standardization, limited access to testing, prior to any vaccination authorization, and before new, incredibly transmissible variants like Omicron emerged.

After discussions with our medical board of advisors, and users like you, we’ve worked towards integrating these new CDC metrics into our products. Most of our previous metrics will still be available on our site, just not integrated into the new Community Level.

We are deeply proud of the impact our previous risk frameworks have had on the safety and well-being of our users. Recently, the CDC updated their community risk level metric calculator - it looks towards reducing severe illness and minimizing the strain on health care systems.

Weekly new cases is the number of new reported COVID cases per week per unit of population (we measure per 100K people). It represents the current amount of COVID in a community and acts as an early warning indicator of potential increases in health system strain.
