No treatment can explain South Africa's drop in cases and deaths unless it was nearly unavailable two months ago and then suddenly became available to almost anyone who wanted it.

Google Trends shows that South Africans' interest in ivermectin took off in early December, was at its high plateau during all of January, and remains significant. One doctor I saw interviewed described establishment resistance, but wide use of veterinary ivermectin in S.A.

SA doctor here. Black market (ie dubious quality, often contaminated) ivermectin as well as veterinary ivermectin was sourced by pockets of people in some communities. It was at most a few thousands of people. Can vouch that the overwhelming majority have not used it.
