They need to deploy existing repurposed antiviral drugs immediately and have needed to for many many months, however I believe that many more will be required as the virus adapts and escapes vaccines it will do the same with antivirals. Only combination treatments will defeat it.

I've been on board for a while but you're losing me with things like refering to IVM as an anti-viral. It's an anti-parasitic that may have anti-viral properties. That's not the same as developing a specific anti-viral drug. The distinction matters.
