But as I gazed at the mirror, the door continued to transform. The red bouquets of roses that I remembered had adorned the outside of the door blossomed around the door frame. The door became more detailed than I had ever seen before. And now I knew. I'd made a terrible mistake.

I was not on the inside of the door. I was on the outside.

Happiness had never lay within this room. Only coldness, despair, death and loneliness existed within this room. Like before in my life, the room had appeared when I had truly needed it, calling me away from everything that was wrong in the world.

The real paradise was out there - on the other side of the door - with real people and real connections and real things that mattered. Yet I had been mistaken. I had mistaken the series of sordid fleeting encounters in this room as the goal that I had sought.

Oh, how wrong I had been! The room grew colder and colder. There were never any HOT SINGLES in this room. Only something else! Those twinkling little stars had been glimmers of life just like mine, before they had succumbed and been crushed to freezing bitterness forever.

The door opened and I could see their faces in the mirror, looking at my naked body. Not only that but I could feel their presence rushing up to devour me. The pain, loneliness and hunger of COLD MULTITUDES ACROSS INFINITY eager to drain whatever remaining warmth I had left in me

How many of them were there? Dozens? Hundreds? There were so many it was impossible to tell. The room was now impossibly glacial as it filled with their endothermic COLD MULTITUDES. Ice hung in the air. Their hands clawed at my skin and their numbing laughter pierced my ears.

I closed my eyes and plunged myself into darkness. The ultimate heat-death of a cold and infinite universe where all love perishes opened its mouth to swallow me. I would never return. I would never feel warmth again. Coldness was my God now. I was one with the awful infinite.

The perspective shift on the red door was an amazing moment - horrifying.
