To have good results like this you have to align incentives. A King will want this for his Kingdom because it selfishly benefits him even if he has zero concern for his people. In contrast, a democratic government has incentives to produce race riots and puberty blockers.https://twitter.com/aimeeterese/status/1453853725756256259 …

I just wanted people to have basic things like decent wages, healthcare and stability. Turns out "democratic socialism" meant race riots, puberty blockers, pfizer mandates and complicity with the national security state.

Kim Jong-Il was king of north Korea. Has that worked out for the subjects? Conversely, consider the only true democracy: Switzerland. We don't have democratic governments elsewhere in the West. Liberal "representative democracies" are neither representative nor democracies.

North Korea has transitioned from communist state to an effective monarchy and there are some serious hurdles when trying to do so. At the very minimum they've created a state where people have enough hope for the future to have children. TFR N Korea - 2.1 TFR S Korea - 1.09

What?? N Korea has a higher TFR, thus N Koreans are more optimistic than S Koreans? They fish plastic bottles out of river on the Chinese border and treat them like delicacies. Could it just be there’s more backward peasants in N Korea, and backward peasants have more kids?

Maybe fishing plastic bottles out of a river isn't as bad for the soul as the n-th degree of feminism and atomized consumerism that is present in South Korea. Maybe in 50 years N Korea can figure out how to get rich and remain Korean like China did but even if not, they'll exist

They had a horrific famine as late as the 2000s. Taking awhile for the Hoppean Kingship incentive to kick in. It’s illegal to leave and you’re shot if you attempt to. I’m taking atomistic consumerism over that.

Look, the alternative is to be occupied by USG. Famine is better than letting USG empower your society's deviants to castrate and molest your sons and turn your daughters into sterile sexbots. It's easier to rebuild from famine than from USG rotting your culture.

What about Saudi Arabia, which is an absolute monarchy of the ancien régime type, never been communist? The Saud royals have billions in offshore bank accounts, the people do barely ok (thanks to oil surplus) but are forced to live in the pod under the heel of the morality police

KSA seems above average for an Arab society but the real main motivation for a King there is "don't piss off American progressives or they'll try to kill you to install fanatic Muslims". Dubai, otoh, looks great on almost any measure because they're small enough to be overlooked
