I genuinely surprised by how much hostility there is toward Biden. It’s not surprising that a lot of people hated Trump, since he was such a controversialist But the whole point of Biden was that he’d be this generic establishment non-entity So the hate for Biden is surprising

It's polarization. People hated Obama even though he was centrist, reasonably competent, and avoided any awful changes for the worse in American life. The idea that Brandon was inoffensive and generic and the people would just say, "let's go," was always self-delusion.
