It's not like some random loonies just randomly took charge of the San Francisco legal system either lol This is just the rational extension of the ideology, as put into practice, by its true believers, when they have no fetters.

Honest question: why do they insist on doubling down on failing policies instead of modifying their ideology? Why does it seem preferable to people to accept the outcomes of perverse incentives structures rather than update their worldview/mental framework?

Boiling off process. Doubling down on failed policies is part of the cycle of the ideology - each failure justifies more progressivism. Those who reject that and reassess *stop being progressives*
