In the interest of curtailing what could be a rambling thread, the reason I started thinking about this is not because of the shifts in generations as teenagers, but because of the responses by their elders.https://twitter.com/The_WGD/status/1446148455668273158 …

I am entirely sympathetic to the younger generations and their plight. That said, social media in particular, along with other environmental influences, seems to have wrecked their native resilience, attention span, and openness to criticism.

I owe a great deal to the professor, but his penchant for "gamification" has never sat right with me.

As the, let us say, "attention gravity" of our distractions has increased, our institutions have, by and large, surrendered. Instead of demanding, or even trying to train longer attention spans into our youth, we have adjusted "education," career expectations, etc towards play.

Instead of saying, "here is your Pokédex, but for beetles," we give our kids "smart phones" and "learning aps." Rather than training the youth to overcome technology's inherent handicaps, we seek to accommodate them.

This is, in my opinion, the most ubiquitous form of cowardice. It is an older generation abdicating its obligations to the younger, because of the fear that they will upset children. Children exist to be upset!

The young want/expect a third party school marm to intervene and enforce some outcome-based fairness, which is preventing the young from developing sufficient agency to thrive.

It's all they've ever known. Our society has gone insane because it's indulged women's emotional tendencies to an absurd extent.

Absolutely this. It's the accommodating mother in the complete absence of the judgmental, standards-enforcing father. Midwits mistake this as an attaq on womxn, but it's bigger and much worse than that. It's "men" possessed by the matriarchal spirit who are ultimately at fault
