If war is a continuation of policy and our government doesn't actually have any policies other than "no accountability for insiders" and "more power to insiders" then what can a military actually accomplish? Nothing. Did we invade Iraq using Anne Coulter's strategy? Nope.

Say what you will about Anne's proposal but at least it had a specific goal In Afghanistan, what would a "success" of "women's rights" look like? There is no such state ... because even if it reached the state of the US - that's still not a place where "sexism is a real problem"

So what else do you expect the top generals to do? Might as well cash out and try to keep the guys under your nominal command (not as if you could give them orders to actually do anything) safe (if you're inclined). The corruption is an effect - not a cause

I think part of cause is being isolated between 2 oceans, abundant resources & a culture-wide lack of selective pressures (war etc) other civilizations faced which would punish degenerate leaders, values,& actions.Weve been able to operate this way cause nothing has stopped us yet

Clausewitz was wrong. Politics is the continuation of war by other means.
-
No he wasn't and the reverse formulation is completely brain dead. Politics and war are both ways of teaming up to achieve some goal as the expense of the other side - control territory, rule people, take possession of women or other durable goods.
