This thing is a little bit reddit at times but I think that can be forgiven, knowing what I now do about the author. A gripping read from start to finish. And grim https://elan.school/

Great read. One interesting thing that struck me is that the writer's parents are very typical "normies" meaning that they always thing everything is *normal* so it's impossible to communicate how non-normal author's situation was Elan did many things but it weaponized that too

Few things quite as quintessentially American as delegating parental responsibilities to total strangers.

The American sickness is inability to accept hierarchy. Parents don't want to exercise authority but know it's needed so they outsource it - and who will take up that responsibility in a society that demonizes the very idea? The worst people. Horror.
