New Dune movie raised an interesting implied question with its costume design. The movie lays out the rules of personal shields in the Dune-iverse - slow blade goes through, fast deflected. It also shows soldiers in heavy armor. How do you penetrate armor with a slow blade?

The book said shields can't be used on Arrakis because of the worms.

Guess it depends on the location because the capital city was protected though.

More a question about the entire rest of the Imperium - why aren't armies using armor with shields?

Don't shields blow up from laser weapons? You could shoot someone from far and wipe out a bunch of dudes. Shields fit better for a close range situation

Also blows up the shooter and has a chance to create an explosion that is indistinguishable from use of nuclear weapons - which results in the other houses uniting to obliterate the party that violated the prohibition
