Wow, 15 whole skyscrapers. Can't imagine the amount of economic deadweight loss that that represents. Luckily we don't have economic central planning, just race communism... https://twitter.com/Jon_Hartley_/status/1437664359778381826 …pic.twitter.com/EYEBFAdFgX

This picture always gets me, is there a thread or some video out there actually explaining exactly what happened?

ConINC blames unions for destroying the big three auto companies, decimating the Detroit tax base and thereby gutting the city. Both the left and right outside ConINC blame white flight for decimating the tax base.

Detroit the city was a disaster long before the big three ran into any serious problems.

Yeah, ConINC is totally full of it. Plant closures began maybe mid '70s. First major race riot was '43. '67 was worse and began tradition of "Devil's Night." White flight was clear in Census data by 1950, accelerated in the '60s.

Unions did destroy the big 3 (more accurately, the unions were American style communism the workers "seizing the means of production" - and using them to pay dividends in the form of sinecures until the company collapses) but letting blacks hunt whites for sport destroyed Detroit

GM, and to a lesser extent the other big three, used the UAW as a protection racket against domestic production competition in the '50s and '60s by raising wages to a prohibitive level. Then they were gutted by foreign competition.

Their Cadillac insurance plans and poorly made vehicles didn't help either. Remember the saying not to buy an American car made on Monday or Friday?

Yeah, the breakdown went up and down the line. Engineers unwilling to even test drive the competition. Assembly lines with signs saying, "Drink your beer, a worker in India goes without." Executives who thought of the enterprise as a financial institution instead of car company.

The Dems didn't want factories in America because of pollution, the right didn't want them because of cheap foreign labor. A perfect combination to gut a nation's core. Now they think electric cars will save them. They are going to be useless when battery prices skyrocket.

"Cheap foreign labor" is a lie. Any (honest) economist will explain that workers get paid according to marginal productivity. If labor is cheap elsewhere, it's because it's less productive - unless the "extra wages" are actually stealth taxes (with massive deadweight loss).

There was an intra-(D) war - the "progressive" wing wanted America de-industrialized because it hates America and Americans. The labor guys wanted to keep the racket going. The (R)s had nothing to do with it.

Internationalist/globalist Rs like Rockefeller wanted deindustrialization to make access to the American market more attractive to peripheral developing countries for diplomatic reasons.
