Ironically the long term decline of the dollar and the rise of China will likely prove a huge boon to the American manufacturing sector and labor force.

I think it was more unforeseen economic problems caused by the inflation of the currency in the post-WWII era. I don’t think it was intended to shut down Detroit.

Of course it was. Wealth was flowing to non-priestly people which enraged progressives so they did whatever they could to shut it down. If it was an accident they might have rolled back some of the destructive rules.
