Both mental shortcuts rely on social proof instead of real world data as evidence of truth. They just work in opposite directions.

Idiotic take "This is heterodox *and still came out of academia*" means it's dead certain to be true - denying it would so fatally damage credibility that it must be published Anything orthodox that gets published can just be published because it pushes orthodoxy Non-symmetric
