Because that's not the point, law was not the point. Custom, tradition, God made it clear. Making laws about it only would make it more visible and give it legitimacy.

In a sane, healthy culture women would be horrified and distance themselves from any hint about ab*rtion. You don't get that back by making a law and if you make a law when you don't live in that culture don't expect it to last or be enforced.
