I used to enjoy cheesy alt-history war fiction. "What if Germany invaded the US during WWI?" Always silly, fun, and a light-hearted read because the US always comes out ahead (staple of the genre).

Can't enjoy them anymore because they also advance the timeline of progressivism; somehow, anything happening differently in history causes the civil rights/feminist/gay rights movements to happen decades earlier. Depressing to me now.

If presented with present day social and economic politics, do those men go across the world to fight for what was, in hindsight, a pointless war? Buchanan's book, Churchill, Hitler and the Unnecessary War, makes a compelling argument.
