They're wrong because Scott serves a different purpose than the NYT. NYT is the official press that gives the intelligently written party line that can then be simplified for the next level down. Scott exists to catch potential defectors before they leave the mainstream.

His audience is people who need to hear someone "smart" having the same doubts they have and dismissing those doubts. Smart people can recognize this. NYT writers cannot.

Interesting question. I tend to think so, yes. When he stopped writing there was a noticeable uptick in interest in actual dissident writing.

It isn't his most popular work, but the author of "Against Murderism" is not a supporter of modern orthodoxies, nor does he write in support of them (at least intentionally). From less than a month ago, "Contra Smith" seemed to either mock progressivism or just not consider it.

This is a guy who thinks a great use of your charitable giving is to ensure that there is as much crime as possible. He's a progressive.https://slatestarcodex.com/2017/05/16/bail-out/ …

Oh; no doubt. But, as the guy above said, you'd have to be a human pretzel to take his logic and accept his conclusions simultaneously. Many such people exist, but, overall, his blog does more to reduce the number of such people than increase.

Scott is exactly that human pretzel and writes his blog with an audience of potential human pretzels in mind. It doesn't take much ability to notice things to notice the contradictions in progressivism so it's flattering to the ego to be one level above that.

Seriously, look at this POS. "I personally directed my charitable giving toward creating a crime wave - you're welcome" If he thought his blog could possibly make the world better by attracting people away from progressivism he'd shut it down.pic.twitter.com/5krrFUX4lJ
