Watched a movie from the 70s last night. The entire cast was white except for a couple Italians. There were no gays. It felt transgressive. (Should we start saying cisgressive?) Normality feels like a norm violation. That’s where we are now.

@HJoyceGender maybe so many adolescent girls are harming themselves these days because of the unrealistic expectations pushed on them by the Entertainment industry via the Hermione standard. "I'm an 11 year old girl, I know everything, I can do anything and I'm the best!"pic.twitter.com/pzL2B7xWFu1 reply 0 retweets 8 likes -
I understand the intent may have been good originally but I dare you to find a single movie, book or TV program these days where a young girl isn't presented as some sort of combination of super hero + Einstein level genius who can solve every problem.

I was never a huge fan of Judy Bloom but she did seem to write about young girls as they are and not how the
#GirlPower brigade would want them to think they could/should be.pic.twitter.com/R0Bozuy3CO

@_HelenDale I suspect that Rowling over-did Hermione because she felt for marketing/sales reasons she had to have a male protagonist & that bothered her. But in the over piling on of her talents & skills she created an unhelpful trope for young girls in popular entertainment.1 reply 0 retweets 4 likes -

She's both Rowling's Mary Sue and a typical woman's view of someone super intelligent - someone who reads all the school assigned books in advance and does all her homework.
