Look at Fauci - this is a dim man who rose to the top of his bureaucracy and stayed there for 40 years purely because he has absolutely no need to concern himself with truth. His entire rise was because he was willing to tell the lie the machine wanted to hear about GRIDS.

Don't know about Krugman - apparently he showed some intelligence 40 or 50 years ago. Do know about Robert Reich who is an economics professor (and former cabinet official) who stated that low oil prices were a great opportunity to switch away from petroleum products.

Smart but wrong means the possessor of those traits has traits that are handicapping him in a status competition (intelligence being a mark against him). Just as easy for the system to find not smart men who can come up with the same positions and conclusions.

No, the system finds smart people who will say the things that the system wants to hear. Highly agreeable people have difficulty developing dissident thoughts - they lack the ability to even generate ideas which other people would consider offensive. They can still be high IQ.

>They can still be high IQ. They might be but then *at best* you've got a system that's indifferent to intelligence - getting a random sample of intelligence. Not only is intelligence not an advantage in coming up with prog-egregore pleasing positions, it's a disadvantage.

this is Curtis' point about structure. We've got a system with lots of smart people plugged into it generating disutility.

He's right that structure is powerful, he's wrong that structure is completely indifferent to character and intelligence - our system actively selects for midwits of poor character. They would be terrible even in a good system.
