...and even though he's loyal to progressivism to the death *he still got attacked by the machine because his rationalizations for ignoring the holes in progressivism were too intelligent and sophisticated for the machine to understand*

If the machine were selecting for intelligence then the people at the NYT - the top of the top in institutional prestige - would be smart enough not to attack Scott because they would know that he's their ally. They're not.

They're wrong because Scott serves a different purpose than the NYT. NYT is the official press that gives the intelligently written party line that can then be simplified for the next level down. Scott exists to catch potential defectors before they leave the mainstream.

His audience is people who need to hear someone "smart" having the same doubts they have and dismissing those doubts. Smart people can recognize this. NYT writers cannot.

Interesting question. I tend to think so, yes. When he stopped writing there was a noticeable uptick in interest in actual dissident writing.

funny you say that but the only reason I was exposed to reactionary thought was cause I read his reactionary in a nut shell and agreed with the reactionaries. many such cases

Scott was of the school of "hey, there are some good ideas here that can improve our progressive governance" in his earlier interactions with reaction - he later backed away from this position when he better understood the reactionary critique of the progressive system.
