"Girls" is crypto right wing propaganda about the destructive power of modernity and the incredible draw of some kind of instinctual tradition (I would dare say genetic memory), even in a world that has made that life near impossible. It's one of the finest shows ever made.https://twitter.com/nexusXc/status/1410009154047991812 …

"Girls" is directly relevant to your experience on a micro situational level in a way that higher powered dramas are not. Art does not *have* to be "relevant" to be good but my god is that particular show on the nose

In particular very few shows I have watched speak as directly to the incredibly dark female id. I think a lot of the reason people don't like it is that stylistically they feel the need for a tonal equilibrium between what's happening on a surface level and the implication

Yep. Girls is actually a brilliant satire, and I think Dunham knew exactly what she’s doing 30 Rock works similarly. At the shows core, it’s a satire of the American elite, both latte creative class and corpo sharks. In the last season, Liz eschews her girlboss job for a family

I'm not sure she knew what she was doing - I think she honestly thought the characters on the show were strong and empowered but trying to figure the world out. What makes is such amazing right wing propaganda is how horrific they are and how no one can see it.
