Every fighting sport has weight classes yet men vary in height and weight. The implications are very clear - unarmed combat is relatively unimportant as a selective pressure on men and size isn't the most important factor in soldiering (like it is in unarmed combat).https://twitter.com/CyberPunkCortes/status/1410301887061057541 …

    Hernan Cortes @CyberPunkCortes
How big does a person need to be to be an effective soldier? Audie Murphy was a one man army at 5’5” and no more than 140 lbs. The average Civil War soldier was no more than 5’7” and 145 lbs. They could march dozens of miles carrying 1/3 their body weight in gear. pic.twitter.com/s8terDuFfS

        Manlets are rising up (metaphorically)

that’s not quite true - rather the implication is if there are fitness-returns to large size thru martial success, the metabolic cost is high enough to make “just surrender” competitive as a reproductive strategy

Is there a return for large size for group martial success? Not so sure that there is. Even in direct physical confrontations

The mind and the Will are far more potent weapons than size. Fitness is necessary but conditioning more than raw size. A manlet who knows strategy and tactics is far more dangerous than an oversized soy creature or street jogger.

thoughts: 1. modern warfare does not produce eugenic selection pressure - it is extremely dysgenic because causalities are distributed more or less at random 2. variations in height and weight would have had much more effect in outcomes for pre-modern combat with hand weapons

(to expand on point 1, modern warfare has dysgenic effect because conscripted soldiers are selected from the most fit cohort of male population, they're removed from reproduction pool for years even if they survive, and some random distribution of them are maimed or killed)

in warfare discipline, supply, and numbers seem way more important than individual effort. maybe you'd want big, strong, charismatic men as field officers, but in most wars (not WWI) officers tended to make out better

No they didn't, your bass aakwards on officer casualties. Officers took more casualties for most of recorded history prior to ww2. ww1 casualties and Crimean war casualties and civil war casualties should have disabused you of this idiocy

Knights were specifically chosen for size. Size only ceases to be an advantage when you go to ranged weapons.
