I think a lot about this graph. All the usual explanations for Western decay, and yet TFR at .92 in a country with no such problems. pic.twitter.com/4270oPb1uQ

The ROK had state-run fertility reduction programs till the late 1990s because of muh better labor participation of women. No need to mystify their low birth rate.

Yeah, it's pretty clear what happened in these societies. Just go out at night in a big city in Japan and look through the big windows at all the poor saps still working at their desks. SURPRISE! they ain't having kids. Neolib economy = you literally die. 🤷‍♂️

Nah, that's nonsense. Whether or not people are having children you're going to see groups of men *somewhere*. If they had tons of kids they'd still be in the office and you'd say that they were working to provide status goods for kids - and you'd be right.

If they hung out in parks you'd say *that's* why they didn't have kids. Men existing in a place isn't a reason why kids aren't being produced.

No, men working themselves to death (in Japan quite literally in many cases) is the problem. It's the culture neoliberalism creates. I wouldn't be saying that if men were having picnics.
