No, of course as you say female education and employment is the main factor (Jim showed me precisely the Japanese graph on his blog last year), no question about it. It can be however that when women enter the workforce en masse + the corporate culture is very exhausting the
fertility reduction is even more drastic than usual. A hunch of mine for instance is that here in Spain an improvement in housing and employment could yield more results than in Nordic countries, because I think we are more family-oriented (particularly in the south).
