The way the US, Israel & to a lesser degree UK have simply turned off the pandemic response — after the vaxx drive had more or less run its course — suggests the hysteria is far more coordinated, & far less organic, than I have tended to suggest here.

My guess is that the pressure against them that they're most sensitive to is a preference cascade and people getting sick of the lockdown measures and vaccines being available mean that people will start to live normally no matter what they say so they all decide to say it's over

Could be coordinated, could be a common response to the same stimulus.

if they tried to pull this shit for much longer, they knew people would make bigger problems for them--best thing is to save face by saying "oh yeah the vaccines were great, it's over now! onto the next story arc"

In DE, public opinion has been made wholly irrelevant by a) atomisation of lockdown & repressive measures against any protestors, b) constant state media insistence that measures are hugely popular, c) sidelining of parliament by pandemic emergency legislation.

All these reienforce each other (you don‘t see many people, so you believe crazy polls; the legislature is absent, so political discontent has no target, etc.), to the point that I doubt popular discontent matters very much for containment policies.

It's not about "protests" and LARPing that you're manning the barricades in the French Revolution - it's about mass ignoring of rules which is catching and scary.

yea just have to imagine that if they keep everyone on house arrest there will be a tipping point eventually, especially if they can see other countries out having fun through social media on the other hand it's been like 15 months so who knows when "too much" is?
