Clearly so - settled agriculture meant that there were productive farmers and concentrated wealth that were worth warring over. War over women and the right to extract rents from farmers is good for the genes of the winners.

I finally found the answer to this. The graph does not represent the number of males alive, it represents the number of different Y chromosomes which would be shared among related males.
