There funniest thing is that Norton was so full of himself that he insisted the character have depth and thus ended up making him smarter than his interlocutors, who reflect the intellectual depth of the screenwriter(s). The film does a terrible job with its ostensible message.

The director disavowed the final cut. It was all Norton. It’s similar to Falling Down, where you just can’t help but like Douglas’ character, even though Schumacher acts like that is some unintended outcome.
