Dystopia paradox: a society will only imagine dystopias of futures it's well determined to avoid. Hence we watch dystopias about gene determinism even as we throttle ourselves with gene denial. We watch dystopias about us exploiting robots when the reverse is ever more likely.

First noticed after Ex Machina. I thought it was a great movie about evil AI hacking our empathy circuits. Everyone else (including the makers) seemed to think it was about evil men exploiting women and getting what they deserve.

Too close to noticing that that security hole exists without AIs exploiting it - just a breakdown of sexual relations.
