It took 2 days to develop the vaccine after China published the genome and then 11 months for every bureaucratic box to be checked plus a bonus delay of 2 weeks for no reason and a week to ensure the news didn't come out before the election and he's touting this as a success.https://twitter.com/NateSilver538/status/1373400414108942337 …

tbf at the point when they were first made it wasn't reasonable to assume they worked, some testing is still needed wonder what the fastest possible testing cycle is, with challenge trials and all two months? three?

It was reasonable to assume it worked but you could do challenge trials in maybe 3 weeks or a month - the gestation period at the time was thought to be up to 14 days.

merge initial safety trials with challenge trials, wait ~3wk expand to larger sample, watch for side effects, say ~6wk you could maybe pull it inside a couple months but there really is a minimum time it can take

(not that there's any excuse for it taking eleven months when it could have taken three)

11 months was insane but the final two weeks where the committee that voted on approval just didn't meet for a few weeks was the most insane part. THEY WERE BUSY
