hopefully y'all starting to notice what i was noticing when i asked this, that the decline in 'new cases' is slowing down and starting to asymptote, despite all the vaccinations. it's a possible outcome that we just have a baseline low-level 'new cases' all the time.https://twitter.com/soncharm/status/1370920437656473602 …

so, have you thought through what you think should happen in that possible outcome? (that 'new cases' never actually goes to zero, ever?) we all just keep 'wearing masks' and having 'public health measures'? forever? that's the future of society?

a giant blind spot in most Smart thinking on this thing since the start: refusal to think through *possible outcomes*. this is moot now, but it was a possible outcome that no functioning vaccine would be ever developed, yet we hitched our fate to one. bad risk management

The one thing you can grant them amidst all their fuck-ups is that there actually was a working vaccine when they said this because there was a working vaccine 2 days after China published the genome.

True. And I expressed doubt at the time, so I was wrong. But in my defense even I in my cynicism couldn’t have imagined our establishment would be so myopic and craven as to sit on a vaccine for like 9 months of the ‘emergency’ because i’s needed to be dotted and t’s crossed
