I think they just wrongly attribute everything to the profit motive for a class that has, at this phase of bankruptcy, transcended the whole concept of profit and moved on to social control.

Their error is that they attribute cohesion to a group that's not cohesive (their "capitalist class") and their rhetoric is all about denying the existence of the cohesive group they belong to - the communist / progressive egregore. They don't get the motive wrong.
