Imagine writing this and having "rationalist" in your bio. "Ah yes, we've considered all the info and on this one single dimension (cognitive ability) all humans are exactly the same - except if there's a disability"https://twitter.com/lsparrish/status/1364967408570691586 …

You gotta remember these people believe education actually does something other than act as a selection filter

I wonder what evidence they've seen for this belief

"They"/"these people" doesn't seem very well-targeted here ("rationalist" self-ID correlates with schooling skepticism (see e.g. https://thezvi.wordpress.com/2018/04/15/the-case-against-education/ …) relative to the social class it's drawn from, even if dominant creed of the social class will always be the majority)

formal schooling =/= concept of education education https://youtu.be/xy7_uus1aSo You've wandered into a corner of the internet more cynical of your priors than you can imagine.

I didn't. I get that some progressives treat education like miracle juice- put the onus on you yo probe it *can't* do any given thing- and there are actually some pretty hard limits involved. But it sounds like you're even going further than that?

I think some knowledge acquisition is provably a thing- and anyone who's ever learned to play a video game knows it's possible to train reflexes/microbehaviors. So, what, we're trying to use the schools to inculcate virtue, + virtue is innate and unteachable?

Going back to the OP, he has no realistic idea of the IQ floors for learning skills he thinks can be taught to anyone School can inculcate virtue, teach knowledge and effectively sort by cognitive ability but it does badly on the latter two and is a detriment on the former

Agreed about all that. ("X likely doesn't vary, except in those rare cases where it varies so dramatically we made up a special category for it" would be *super* suspicious even if I had 0 background knowledge.) Thanks for clarifying!
