Without getting into burden of proof, his original claim was the hoax would be a lot of work. But actually it would have been less work for Anne Sullivan to do these things herself.

Not really. The prevailing claim is that a blind-deaf girl/woman named Hellen Keller learned to read, sign, and speak; attended and graduated from a major university, with assistance (as one would expect) from at least one other person; and went on to become a person of note.

This claim has been substantiated with copious evidence, such that very substantial counter-claims amount to a conspiracy theory. Conspiracies have existed (e.g. Watergate), and thus are not automatically disqualified: but they are nevertheless novel and positive claims.
