The only new argument caused by the advancement of technology is one in favor of the theistic case - the simulation argument which posits a being exactly like God without the name. https://t.co/zdpYfDXNzq

Not really? The conclusions reached by the best people who take simulations seriously look less like anything out of any religious tradition, and more like "Don't use the Solomonoff prior when building a recursively self-improving artificial intelligence"https://www.lesswrong.com/posts/Tr7tAyt5zZpdTwTQK/the-solomonoff-prior-is-malign …

They don't have to look anything like output of religious traditions - the point is that simulation arguments are novel and if they're true then there is an agent that created the simulation. This is about the only new argument grounded in technological advance in the field.

When you say "exactly like God but without the name", are you trying to invoke more of a deist or Abrahamic kind of God? I'm saying if you want religion-as-social-technology (men who fear the same God can cooperate more effectively), simulationist cosmology doesn't help much. 1/3

It's not that there's "an agent" (singular) that created "the simulation" (singular) so that you should do what it wants; rather, in a sufficiently large multiverse, there are more copies of the configuration-that-is-you in simulations than in the physical "basement" universe. 2/

But it doesn't affect your decisions much, because the most plausible motive for most simulators is to figure out what happened in "the real world"; we don't in fact observe a world in which the simulators intervene! 3/3

I'm thinking more that the system running the simulation maps very well on to a classical model of God. "God's mind contains the universe". Moral laws are consequences of the physical laws that God lays down. God knows the exact movement of all bodies in a 3 body problem.
