If people think you are a kind and morally decent person, then they are much more likely to find your arguments compelling. That's why the fight against illiberalism should be conducted with as spirit of fairness and cordiality. It's the best weapon we have.

This is IMO why gay celebrities and everyday people "coming out" really helped de-stigmatize homosexuality. When someone learns that people they know and love happen to be LGB, it shatters any negative preconceptions they may have had toward them as a group.

Indeed. Lots of men have trouble accepting that they do a lot of things out of fear so they edit their own beliefs around power and tell stories about a great wave of mind changing.
