That is the mystery to be solved. It's a massive fitness cost yet shows up at higher rates than would be predicted by gene copying error Failed attempts at solving this proposed a "gay uncle" effect that hasn't been observed Live guesses are gay germ and antagonistic selection

No evidence for that. Pretty clear the damage is done much earlier - in utero, perinatal, very early childhood.

Plenty of evidence for that actually but it's mostly anecdotes from things that are nearly impossible to honestly investigate in our culture.

Study the anecdotes more closely. Especially the confessions. In most cases it’s quite clear the pedos pick out boys they can tell are already gay, exploit their pre-existing isolation, confusion, etc.

Riiiiight. "Already gay". Traumatized after the most horrific thing imaginable and offered the choice of "you're gay - a wonderful and special thing that makes you better than regular people" or "you got horrifically abused by someone the culture views as a saint" Wat do?

You think older gay men can’t spot a gender non-conforming boy who’s like them at an earlier age?

Obviously. The question is whether or not it's inevitable in all cases or whether each component is necessary or sufficient.
