People need to understand that Experts who work in Official Institutions basically just make stuff up, and then people cite it as unquestionable because it came from Experts

Can expand on this a little (but not a lot) To ‘steelman’ the Experts: often they’re in a position where they have to say/posit something on which there’s no such thing as ‘the answer’. So they do. What else they supposed to do But still, that’s them Making Stuff Up

To ‘steelman’ the normie adulation of Experts: well hey, even if what they made-up was arbitrary, they’re Experts. Their intuition, experience etc- surely that’s worth something. Certainly more than some rando So they bias toward argument from authority. But it seems ‘rational’

Also, from the Experts’ POV - they’re between a rock and a hard place. Say nothing? ‘Not doing their job’. Say something? Open to criticism. It’s tough. It’s an art In private they’d admit ‘making stuff up’. But also argue for essentially, Expert Privilege in doing so

How can on rationalize Expert Privilege? Well look, here I am in this role. I’ve had it for N years. If I get punished/fired for sticking my neck out what incentive is that. Now you gotta replace me? Who with? I can’t work that way, and it’s not like it makes for better Experts

So the Experts and the normies basically join forces hand in hand in constructing an edifice of respectability around the Argument From Authority. It’s all pretty rational, from both sides But, look at the results.
