wrong assumption. it's not Jack and Zuck that run the companies day-to-day. it's the middle management, the HR & Marketing types. the college educated woke *activists*. you can tell by how *petty* the actions have been.https://twitter.com/neontaster/status/1347896856303513603 …

You can retreat to what companies are technically allowed to do all you want. The ultimate question is are you cool with a world where three rich dudes can decide together to erase anyone or anything from the internet, up to and including the president of the United States.

Principal / agent problem. "We should put political pressure on the corps" does the exact opposite - the woke are allied with any conceivable regulator.

      >the woke are allied with any conceivable regulator bit more convoluted :-) the corps - especially the owners! - love regulators for the regulatory moats protecting them from smaller, nimbler competitors. the *woke staffers* are aligned (& socialize) with the woke journalists.

twitter and facebook don't need or want a regulatory moat since they benefit from network effects while a regulatory moat eventually eats all the profits it guards because (you guessed it) principal / agent problems in manipulating the regulators.

twitter and facebook do not depend at all on IP protection. The only thing you could do with their IP would be make an alternative client and they could simply respond by ... changing some protocols to break your client. Facebook does rely on their data not being stolen.
