Interesting thought, but I suspect the more common outcome will just be that red states acquiesce on all contentious issues to prevent the loss of economic activity, to the chagrin of many red state citizens.

They'll acquiesce with the excuse that they had to but in reality because they wanted to. The proof is that they won't acquiesce to demands from the other side backed with equally or more damaging consequences for ignoring.
