Tired of uninformed virology news from mainstream media? In this video https://youtu.be/wC8ObD2W4Rk  I explain the properties of the #SARSCoV2 UK variant and why claims that it is more transmissible are not supported by experimental data #trustsciencenotscientistspic.twitter.com/l8CwJhW0y9

I’m rather shocked that many are so sure of increased transmissibility of this variant with such thin data. Transmission heterogeneity can completely explain this epidemiologic pattern; so can increased transmissibility. There is no data so far that confirms a phenotypic change.

Broadly, it's because unlike you, we know mathematics.

That’s a vacuous argument, and also invalid. No level of mathematical or statistical evidence could show definitively a phenotypic change in transmission potential. Furthermore, please show me how the evidence factors in the known transmission heterogeneity of SARS-CoV-2.

" No level of mathematical or statistical evidence" - you really are a nut.

Again, a vacuous argument. Without biologic data, we are left with correlations without a clear causal link. There are too many complicating variables - transmission heterogeneity, different social mixing and variable patient cohorts.

We could, and did, manage to breed for milk production in cattle, speed in horses, and disposition in dogs without knowing enough to identify key causal links. Just lucky, I guess.

You missed the part about complicating variables. This isn’t even a remotely applicable comparison.
