One of the big surprises of 2020 for me was finding out that the CDC had not only become highly politicized (which you might have guessed), but actually useless at its core competency, during the singular crisis for which the organization was designed.

Indeed, their performance was so bad that it's in the "arguing about Hanlon's Razor" territory. I thought of them as being more like the NSA - politicized, sure. Power hungry, sure. But also decently competent. Apparently I was wrong.
